Tuning in to People...
People sing just for the enjoyment of it, for the pleasure and satisfaction of the beautiful music that singing creates. But also singing with others is a great way to have fun, to break the ice, to make friends, to come together in community, to celebrate a special occasion or event.
I lead Soulful Singing at workshops in my local community and nationwide. These are most joyful celebrations in themselves! I lead Soulful Singing at festivals including the fantastic Buddhafield Festival with hundreds of ecstatic people! I lead Soulful Singing at events and celebrations of various kinds including community events, weddings and birthdays. It's become almost a weekly event to sing "Happy Birthday!" in 3-part harmony - South African style!
I mostly use simple, accessible South African part harmony songs but also some other treats including Western popular songs and even mix African song with mantra. Some of the songs are simply sublime, some are up-beat which get everyone dancing - especially when I accompany the singing with Djembe drumming! I work with all sorts of people, and with all abilities and numbers - the more the merrier!
